Jason was born in 1965 in the northwestern part of
Norway, but has lived in Oslo
for the last ten years. He is one of the leading
Norwegian comicbook creators.
His album "Lomma full av regn" ("Pocket full of
rain") was in the magasine TEGN
chosen to the best Norwegian comic ever, and it also
won the "Sproing-award" (Norwegian Comics Associations award for best comic).
In TEGN he was picked as the second best Norwegian
comic book creator ever as well.
In 1997 he won a major comic-strip competition
arranged by one of the biggest
Norwegian newspapers, Dagbladet. Jason was picked
among some 250 Norwegian
artists.
The last years he has been working as an
illustrator, and has also published
seven issues of his own comic book, "Mjau Mjau"
("Meow Meow"). The seventh is
fresh from February 2000. The two first issues are
collections of short stories,
all of them in a characteristic poetic and
melancholy style. Issue three and
four includes his longest story so far "Vent
litt..." (Wait a minute..."). This
story is a rather dark biographic story about the
main character's childhood and
growth in to an adult.
In issues five, six and seven Jason explores a
pantomime style with no dialogue.
These stories are also lighter and more
humoristic than his previous.
Even though his style is distinct, he covers a wide
range of themes from
autobiographic to surrealistic stories. He can be
very dark, but also ironic and
funny. Jason is in constant development as an
artist, and he is maybe at his
best when he explore entirely new fields in comic
stories; when he finds the
moods and impressions you didn't think you could
find in a comic.
In the latest issues he has been working in a much
clearer graphic style than
earlier, with lot of open spaces. Most of his recent
stories include animals as
their main characters, but he has certainly not
turned into an ordinary funny
animal creator. He has kept his unique moody style.
